Iranian American Society of New York, Inc. (IAS), a Non-Profit, Non-Political and Non-Religious 501c(3) organization proudly presents - Mehregan Celebration - Featuring Mohsen Namjoo, singer songwriter, music scholar and Setar player who seamlessly blends classical Persian music with electric guitar, Rock and the Blues.
Celebrated annually by IAS, Mehregan is a Zoroastrian and Iranian Festival of Autumn honoring the yazata (angelic divinity) Mithra, which is responsible for friendship, affection and love. Mehregan was the second most important festival, falling behind Nowruz. Due to these two festivals being heavily connected with the role of Iranian kingship, rulers were usually crowned on either Mehregan or Nowruz.
This evening will be filled with Mohsen Namjoo’s musical prowess from the solo performance of his new “Minooor” Project, followed by a group performance with his Ensemble.
The new “Minooor” Project starts the first part of the program which features a solo performance by Mohsen Namjoo, with videos playing in the background accompanying the performance as an audio/visual journey through a small segment of contemporary Iranian history. Essentially, Namjoo invites us to revisit our auditory and visual memories and recall the sounds that permeated our lives in the 1980s.
After a short intermission, there will be a group performance with Mohsen Namjoo and his Ensemble as they take us all on a musical adventure of our favorite music from his 13 Albums.
